Don’t delay – sign the UK petition for improved driver facilities

All transport companies operating in the UK – whether local international – are being asked to support a petition to the country’s Prime Minister calling for major improvements to the facilities available for truck drivers.

The organisation promoting the petition is the UK’s Road Haulage Association and it has already received backing for its campaign from ESTA and the IRU, International Road Transport Union.

An online link to the petition is here https://www.rha.uk.net/Campaigns/Facilities/Facilities-Petition – but don’t delay as the deadline is this coming Thursday, December 22.

In an open letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the RHA said that like many countries in Europe, the UK is suffering an acute shortage of drivers that will not be solved without a major expansion of safe and secure parking areas.

The letter says: “Commercial vehicle drivers are the backbone of our economy yet every day they are up against a lack of safe and secure parking areas, toilets and shower facilities.”

It continues: “Put simply, without a concerted partnership between Government and industry, we run the very real risk that the unacceptable and inadequate facilities available to drivers will only serve to continue the UK’s driver shortage – a major problem that will hold back our economy.”
