The UK’s Heavy Transport Association has told its members that the country’s West Midlands and Staffordshire Police – covering much of England’s central region – have launched a special operation targeting abnormal transports to ensure that loads are being transported legally, safely and in compliance with the regulations.
The HTA, an ESTA member, has warned its member companies to ensure that their paperwork is in order and that failure to provide accurate information to the police could result in enforcement action and vehicles being impounded.
The HTA was told that the police action – called ‘Operation Nightstare’ – had to date stopped 106 movements with only three being satisfactorily compliant.
