ESTA launches CO2 calculator – free trial for members and supporters

ESTA has launched a members-only English-language version of the CO2 calculator developed by Dutch crane association VVT.

It is available to ESTA members via the ESTA website. The tool will allow members to calculate the CO2 production of specified equipment when executing a project including the work involved in mobilisation and demobilisation.

The calculator has been created by the company Emission Insight and all ESTA members and supporters can apply for a three-month free access period.

Companies sign up via the registration form on the ESTA website and receive an exclusive ESTA access code. This code allows three months’ free access to the Emission Insight Dashboard. After the three-month trial, ESTA members are eligible for a discounted subscription.

The dashboard helps calculate a fleet’s carbon dioxide [CO2], nitrogen [NOx] and particulate matter [PM] emissions on a project-by-project basis. Companies can compare the optimal deployment of machines and apply effective emission reduction strategies, as well as gaining insight into the impact of purchasing new machines.

The Emission Insight Dashboard not only helps reduce a company’s carbon footprint, but also aids compliance with environmental legislation and standards. Keeping accurate emissions data makes it easier to report to regulators and pass any audits.

ESTA Director Ton Klijn said: “It is already a common requirement to compare the CO2 output of the various operational options of executing a project, so companies need to have a simple and reliable method of calculating their CO2 production when quoting for a project.”

Emission Insight provides services to any company operating in normal and specialized road transport, heavy lifting and construction for all types of industries. It can calculate emissions from all powered vehicles and equipment using a validated model.
